Chief of Police Donald R. Delaere Jr.

On Thursday, 16 February 2017, Chief Delaere was sworn in as the eighth Chief of Police in the history of the Scituate Police Department.  Chief Delaere is a twenty year department veteran, having been hired on 24 March 1997.  Originally receiving an Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island, Chief Delaere has also gone on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree at Rhode Island College and his Master’s Degree from Anna Maria College, where he graduated with a 3.975 grade point average.

During his tenure with the department, Chief Delaere has served as a supervisor on both day and night shifts and has performed numerous assignments and certifications.  He is a founding member and manager of the Scituate Police Honor Guard and a ten year veteran of the IBPO Local 502’s Executive Board.  In 2002, Chief Delaere graduated from the Cooper Institute, receiving certification as a physical fitness instructor.  Continuing his vocational education, Chief Delaere received his certification as an Accident Reconstructionist in 2006, and in 2007 he completed his Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) certification at the University of Rhode Island.  Please feel free to contact Chief Delaere with any questions or concerns that you may have; he can be reached at ddelaere@scituatepd.org.     

Deputy Chief Todd Rich

Deputy Chief Todd Rich grew up in Hanover NH until high school where he attended Kent’s Hill School in Kent’s Hill Maine. After high school he attended Roger Williams University from 1993-1997graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice. In 1999 he was hired by the Scituate Police Department and attended the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy, class 99-II. Since graduating the police academy Deputy Chief Rich spent many years as an Explorer co-advisor and Honor Guard member. He currently is in instructor for handcuffing, ASP expandable baton, use of force, EVOC and building search.

Deputy Chief Rich is currently the Administrative/ Patrol Commander handling prosecutions at the district court, traffic court, and juvenile hearing board. He is also working with other officers in updating all of the written directives at the Scituate Police Department preparing to get the department accredited with the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission.  Deputy Chief Rich can be contacted at trich@Scituatepd.org.
